Open Letter

I chose to have in the background, a Tranz Metro train ticket as this relates to my company well.  Along the bottom I used 'X's to clip out the numbers to represent my opinion of Tranz Metro.
I think that this is an important feature of the graphic composition of my letter as it includes Tranz Metros well known slogan and also clearly shows my stance on the company.

The Poster

Precedent image

My stance on Tranz Metro is that they are unrelaible/fickle.  The opposing stance is that they are the future as they are environmentally friendly, they take up less room than roads and they take less work to upgrade and repair.  But they cannot be the future if they are unreliable therefore I chose the writing to say "Trains CAN be the future" if Tranz Metro picks up their act.  The left side of the train is grey, brown and falling apart showing their unreliability.  The train is coming through this oval into the future, showing the new Matangi train, using the colour green to represent it being environmentally friendly.  In the background is the map of the Wellington train lines.

I chose to place my poster on the wall of Ngauranga station as it is quite a run down station, showing the unreliability.  I placed it under Tranz Metros slogan "Go the Train" to show that I'm trying to encourage Tranz Metro to be better, to be the future.  I wanted to have the train tracks and yellow line in the background so that you immediatly associate it with a train station.  I also wanted to include the arch over the train tracks as it was an important feature in my photo of the word.  I took the photo on a overcast day as I thought it related well to my stance.

The Word

I chose my word as "fickle" as when I thought of Tranz Metro the first word that came to mind was unreliable, and fickle is a more interesting way of saying that.  I chose to write "fickle" in falling apart cloth, covered in paint and mud, as this related to the word well.  In this first photo I have it weaved into an old rusty fence, infront of the train tracks so that you immediatly know its about the trains.

In this second photo I wanted the the wooden frame that holds the wires up to be one of the main focuses in the photo as I think that it makes an interesting shape from this angle and you immediatly associate it with trains.  I like that there's graffiti covering the ground and on the box in the fence as it adds to the messy, run down look.  I placed the "i" in fickle directly infront of the post so that when you read the word you do a double take.  I photographed it on an overcast day as it relates to my stance.
